A Wonderful Way to Explain Death

We know death can come suddenly.

We know we can't take anything with us.

We know ashes to ashes and dust to dust.

But did you know that the reason Jesus came is to put an end to the devil's power and to break the chains that hold us in fear of death? (Hebrews 2:14-15) The fear of dying is part of the bondage of the devil that Christ died to crush.

Like the corners of a puzzle we have certain key points but there are still questions  that will be filled in over time. There is mystery, but it's really not complicated.

I read a perfect example recently…

A sick man turned to his doctor as he was about to leave the examination room and said, “Doctor, I’m afraid to die. Tell me what’s on the other side.”

The doctor replied, “I don’t know.”

“You don’t know?” the patient asked. “But you’re a Christian! Tell me what you’ve learned.”

The doctor had his hand on the door as he turned to his patient. You could hear the sound of scratching and whining on the other side. When he opened the door, his dog sprang into the room and leapt into his arms, eagerly greeting him.

Turning back to his patient the doctor asked, “Did you see my dog? He’s never been here before. He’s never crossed that threshold. All he knew is that his master had his hand on that door, and when it opened he came through without fear. He just knew I was here and he wanted to be with me.”

“I don’t know what’s on the other side of death’s door, but I do know that my Master has his hand on that doorknob, and when it opens, I will be with him forever. That’s good enough for me.”
